One of the most influential men in the last 100 years that has probably made one of the largest contributions to modern health and wisdom was surprisingly not a doctor, or research scientist. Instead, he was an engineer and inventor. His focus on engineering changed, when in 1955, he was diagnosed with late stage heart

Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy Injections
Whenever our bodies get injured, a natural regenerative healing cascade begins so we can recover. As we age, our ability to regenerate injured tissue gradually declines. Many of us notice this when our injuries heal a bit slower than they once did. Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) is a modern medical procedure that takes 30-60 CC's of your own blood and uses centrifugation to separate and concentrate growth and healing factors so it can be re-injected into injured tissues. The concentrated growth factors help regenerate tissue injuries faster. It can also help regenerate injuries that normally would not heal by themselves, due to insufficient growth factors.
Millions have been treated with PRP therapy throughout the world. It is a safe therapy to assist in cellular & tissue regeneration.
Brief History of Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet-rich plasma began back in the 1970s when hematologists began describing plasma as PRP when it had a platelet count greater than normally found in blood. Shortly thereafter, PRP began being used to treat sports injuries. Platelet-rich plasma, with its concentrated growth factors and anti-inflammatory response can stimulate cell proliferation. This process assists with amplifying the body’s own natural healing ability. Up until recently, platelet-rich plasma was too expensive for most and rarely was it covered by insurance companies. More recently, PRP treatments have come down significantly due to the widespread use of the technology.
Platelet-rich Plasma PRP Overview
Platelet-rich Plasma has many applications: Facial rejuvenation, tennis elbow, shoulder injuries, knee injuries, and hair regrowth. We use the finest machine(s) and technique for preparation of PrP therapy. It is best to use PRP equipment with special kits to ensure maximum consistency and repeatability of the growth factor concentration. This helps to eliminate minor mixing and concentration errors related to growth factor optimization.
PrP Therapy extracts growth factors from your own blood to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. It is used routinely for the following treatments:
- Facial rejuvenation
- Tennis Elbow
- Knee Injuries
- Hair Regrowth Stimulation
- Erectile Dysfunction, commonly referred to as the P-Shot.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) — the latest treatment for tendon injuries — heals tennis elbow better than corticosteroid shots, studies suggest.
Because some isolated areas of our bodies get very little blood flow, injured tendons, knees, elbows and shoulders heal slower. As we age, this slows even further and many simply never heal without surgery.
Platelet-rich Plasma from PrP therapy attracts healing growth factors, so the idea of PrP is to inject a patient’s own Platelet-rich Plasma at the site of the injury, hence, attracting healing Growth Factors to the specific area and stimulating the healing cascade.
To date, studies suggest that PRP works for tennis elbow, knee injuries and shoulder pain.
At the same time, corticosteroid shots have been losing favor among many doctors with access and knowledge of PrP.

Some famous athletes that use PrP treatment include Pittsburgh Steelers Safety – Troy Polamalu (knee injury), Golfer – Tiger Woods (knee injury), Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher – Takashi Saito (UCL). Combined with HGH, PrP and Tommy John (UCL) surgery in the elbow could be a savior for many athletes, provided that Mark Cuban’s recent call for more testing and studies be done to review HGH as an injury recovery tool for professional athletes.

Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy is now being used to treat tendon injuries in the arms, shoulders, and knees.
Since tendons receive less blood flow than other body parts, they heal slower. In fact, in many cases, healing may not occur at all unless an invasive surgery is performed to repair the damaged tissue. Platelet-rich Plasma treatment shows great promise in these areas of the body. It works by using the patient’s own blood, which is transformed into Platelet-rich Plasma using a special centrifuge machine, and then injecting the PrP into the injury. The procedure is commonly referred to as PrP therapy or Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy. PrP contains certain growth factors that work to heal as well as attract other healing growth factors to the area treated. Results are seen within weeks following treatment.
By taking approximately 60cc of the patient’s blood, significant amounts of growth factors can be concentrated. The PrP is removed from the centrifuge, placed into a syringe, and then injected into the injury, perhaps a patient’s elbow, shoulder or knee.
One famous publicized study by researches at St. Elisabeth Hospital in the Netherlands found that over the long run PRP treatment outperformed the commonly known corticosteroid injection.
- 64% of patients receiving new PrP Therapy reported improvement in pain, while only 24% reported improvement with the traditional corticosteroid injection.
- 84% of patients receiving new PrP Therapy reported improvement in disability, while only 17% with the traditional corticosteroid injection.
Dr. Gosens was the leader of the study. He and his colleagues submit that their study shows a significant improvement in 26 weeks. Other doctors are reporting even better results.
As the cost of platelet-rich plasma injections continues to decline, more physicians will begin offering this natural healing approach to their patients. This will also bolster the promotion of stem cell therapy and exosome therapies, due to the paracrine effect of stimulating the natural healing cascade with cell and non-cell therapies.
Platelet-rich Plasma therapy is still very new. It is on the cutting edge of technology for helping the body to heal and regenerate itself faster. The treatment is available at the Anti Aging and Wellness Clinic in Costa Rica, Mexico, and Panama, as well as at our domestic facilities in Boca Raton, FL, and Louisville, KY.
